Whitworth names Shamion

as new defensive coordinator

Whitworth University named Adam Shamion as the Pirates’ new defensive coordinator, according to football coach Rod Sandberg.

Shamion comes to Whitworth after serving nine years as an assistant coach at Post Falls High School, the last five as defensive coordinator. Additional roles at Post Falls included special teams coordinator and strength and conditioning coach. Post Falls finished the 2017 season 8-2, 2-1 in the 5A Inland Empire League to earn a state 5A playoff berth where the Trojans lost to Rocky Mountain High of Meridian 63-34 on Oct. 27 at Post Falls.

Shamion was a starting middle linebacker at the University of Idaho. He graduated in 2009 with a degree in University Studies. While at Idaho, Shamion represented the football team on the department’s leadership council.

“It became very clear in the interview process that Adam is exactly the type of coach we desire to have in this program,” Sandberg said. “He is very relational and he coaches for all the right reasons. Our players our going to love him and I am excited to see how his passion and knowledge of the game will positively impact our defense.”

Shamion replaces Adam Richbart, who stepped away from college coaching to return to his home with his family in upstate New York.

Following graduation at Idaho, Shamion returned to Post Falls, where he had been a standout on the football, wrestling, track and baseball teams while in high school. In addition to his duties with the football team, Shamion has been an assistant on the track and field team, coaching the throwers.

Shamion joins a Pirate football staff that has posted a 25-6 record over the last three seasons.
