- 3A DISTRICT 1 TOURNAMENT

COEUR d’ALENE — Jordan Hardy scored 12 points and Dawson Cramer added 10 as the shorthanded and No. 2 seed Timberlake Tigers beat the No. 3 Bonners Ferry Badgers 51-39 in the first round of the 3A District 1 tournament Monday at North Idaho College’s Rolly Williams Court.

Timberlake (9-12) played without Colton Counts, its 6-foot-5 senior post. Counts, who averages around 11 points per game, suffered a neck injury in a game last week, and has yet to be cleared by doctors to play this week.

Timberlake coach Michael Scott said he wash’t sure if Counts would be back this week.

“Offensively, a lot of guys stepped up (in Counts’ absence),” Scott said. “Dawson Cramer just has a way to get to the hole. Defensively we put a lot of pressure on them, and rebounded the ball well.”

Chris Sabin of Bonners Ferry led all scorers with 15 points.

Timberlake will play No. 1 seed Kellogg (16-3) in the championship game Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. at NIC. Kellogg defeated No. 4 Priest River 67-14.

Bonners Ferry (9-12) will face Priest River (2-19) in a loser-out game Wednesday at 4:30.

Kellogg beat Timberlake by 41 and 28 points during Intermountain League play.

“We just need to settle down,” Scott said. “We played them twice, and both times we got in too big of a hurry. They pressured us, and we rushed our shots.”
