No snow job from Post Falls

| February 17, 2018 11:08 PM

A few days ago, high school spring sports coaches in North Idaho had to be thinking, hey, maybe we can be outside when practices begin later this week, and not cooped up in a gym for days/weeks.

Sorry.

We interrupt the return of winter in North Idaho for a few thoughts on one town having a nice sports season ...

HEADING INTO Saturday, schools from Post Falls had a chance to win a whopping five high school state championships this year in the three winter sports — girls basketball, wrestling and boys basketball.

The Post Falls girls basketball team was victorious Saturday night in the state 5A title game at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa.

Saturday morning, the Genesis Prep girls took defending champion Butte County of Arco to the wire before falling 43-41 on a basket in the final seconds of the 1A Division II championship game at the Ford Idaho Center. It’s only the third year the Genesis Prep basketball programs have been sanctioned by the Idaho High School Activities Association, and already the Jaguar girls have a third-place finish last year and now a runner-up finish to show for their two trips to state.

This weekend in Pocatello, Post Falls is favored to bring home the state 5A wrestling title, which would give the Trojans three state titles in the last four years (Post Falls was second to Columbia of Nampa last year).

Then, the weekend of March 1-3, the Post Falls boys basketball team is one of the favorites to win a state 5A title. The Trojans have been a fixture at state for the past decade, playing in three title games, winning two — the last one in 2015.

And Genesis Prep has a good chance to repeat as state 1A Division II champions. The Jaguars were third at state two years ago, their first year eligible, and won it all last year.
