Sally Rust Mauser

On Feb. 10, 2018, Sally Rust Mauser passed away peacefully in her La Conner home surrounded by her family, after a 15-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. During her battle she remained at home under the tender care of her husband. They were supported by family and friends and often traveled the Pacific Northwest camping and enjoying time together.

Sally was born in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to Henry and Juanita Rust. She graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School and from Deaconess School of Nursing in 1956, followed by her marriage to Bruce Mauser. They had two children, Jill and Betsy.

They lived in Spokane, Wash., where she worked as a nurse and participated in the Junior League, was a member of the Hangman Valley Women’s Golf Club and the Episcopal Church. Later in life Sally moved to Seattle and retired from the University of Washington Hospital. Upon retirement she found her “dream home” in La Conner, Wash.

“Who didn’t love Sally?!” Sally was an incredible wife, mother, friend, nurse and counselor to many. Her artistic abilities remain intriguing to all. From pottery and painting to glass work, and most recently, quilting, Sally inspired and had many in awe of all of her artwork.

Sally is survived by her husband Bruce; her daughters, Jill (Bruce) Bell, Betsy (Robert) Neve; her grandchildren, Daniele, Samuel and Samantha; and her sister, Henrietta Wolfe. Sally will be missed by all.

We want to thank the Skagit Adult Day Program, more specifically, “The Bradford House” and The Northwest Regional Council. Also, a special thanks to Hospice of the Northwest. In honor of Sally’s life, in lieu of flowers, please give to Alzheimer’s Disease Research Foundation or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Most importantly, remember to love your family as much as Sally loved hers.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel of Anacortes, Wash. To share a memory of Sally, please sign the online guest register at www.evanschapel.com.
