Shippy opened the season 3-for-3 with a walk against Oregon State, then went 2-for-2 with two runs scored against Arizona. Against Missouri, Shippy finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a home run, then homered and scored three runs against Western Michigan.

For her efforts, Shippy was named Louisville Slugger NFCA Division I National Player of the Week, Big 12 Conference Player of the Week and USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week.

Leanne Asper

Eastern Washington track and field

Asper, a senior from Lake City High, broke Eastern’s school record in the 800 meter run at the Husky Classic in Seattle on Feb. 10, finishing in 2 minutes, 11.21 seconds. The previous record was held by Caitlin Prunty (2:12.48) in 2005.

“Leanne Asper gets the performance of the meet for us and she is having a great season in the 800 and 400 events,” Eastern Washington women’s track and field coach Marcia Mecklenberg said. “The Husky Classic provided another opportunity for the team to improve on their marks and move up on the Big Sky (Conference) lists and we had many athletes do that.”
