SCHOOL: Ignoring roots
Moving back to this area, I was filled with memories of seeing the places where I grew up. They have changed of course, and not for the better. At times, however, I took comfort in the paths my grandparents and great-grandparents helped build.
I was very sorry to see that the school my great-grandfather built no longer has meaning or history to keep in this town. Build new, financial burden, moving forward. Words only, from people who never want to teach the young the importance or history of where they came from. Sure, most of these folks are transplants from California and have ruined the landscape of this fine countryside, but we can still fight to keep what was instilled in us growing up. The fundamental roots that keep this area from turning into a big city with bigger problems, which I see it is turning into. I get progress. But where is the core?
