Len McLean, 97

June 20, 1920 – Feb. 9, 2018

Born and raised in Outlook, Mont., Len McLean had dreams of becoming the next Bing Crosby. His dreams and ambitions took him to the best — like his 12 brothers and sisters. He worked at Douglas Aircraft in California until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, with duty on the Aleutian Chain in Alaska.

Len spent his GI Bill in education at Loyola in California, qualifying him to seek employment in public relations for Southern California Gas Company.

His first marriage brought forth four children: Gary, Scott, Wendy and Tim. Grandchildren Sara, Amber, Seamus and Zoe joined to complete the family tree.

Southern California Gas Company transferred Len to Alaska and he met and married Barbara McVay, becoming step-father to Suzanne and Patrick McVay.

Len was preceded in death by nine siblings, his parents and family ties.

He is survived by wife, Barbara McLean; several siblings and children.

Their home was in Coeur d’Alene and Rathdrum, Idaho.

Len will be laid to rest on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018, at Medical Lake National Military Cemetery. There will be a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, in Coeur d’Alene.
