WARRANTIES: Value questioned

| February 9, 2018 12:00 AM

Enjoyed Bill Brooks’ column in Monday’s Press. Sorry about the frustration that he’s gone through with Sears and their servicing. We recently spent months trying to get a GE range repaired as that company also has very poor customer support. Finally found a really good independent repair guy who we will use when necessary. But the GE folks were worthless.

I personally am against extended warranties. In general if people forego all extended warranties on everything they buy, they will have more than enough money saved to pay for the incidental repair that may be needed after the factory term is up. I feel that if something doesn’t crap out in the first year, then it probably won’t in the next one or two. Also, there tend to be hoops to jump through to get an extended warranty honored.

Thank you so much Bill for helping so many folks in our area and also providing a great column twice a week.
