PHONES: Rules for all

In response to the recent school board decision on cellphone use in our schools. I am wondering if this decision will affect the teachers’ use of cellphones as well? I ask this as I have children in both middle school and high school. They tell me that some of their teachers are using cellphones just as much, if not more, than the kids as they already should not have them in class. I also wonder if this will pertain to the officials making these decisions as well? I presume that many of the other school administrators are on their cellphones at inappropriate times as well; in meetings, at lunches, pretty much during their entire work day.

I admit that I too have used my cellphone at times that I should not. I have also been able to stay off my cellphone when I shouldn’t be on it. I was able to do this without turning my phone off and it was in my pocket. I also teach my children what behaviors and actions are appropriate, including cellphone use.

Maybe the school board should focus on how to teach the kids in school how to use the technology, that is a part of our everyday lives, appropriately instead of creating a double standard that punishes students for the lack of follow-through by administrators.
