Vanessa Shippy

Oklahoma State softball

Shippy, a senior infield from Lake City High, continued to rake in preseason accolades, as she was named to the 2018 Justin’s World of Softball Preseason All-America First Team. It is the second preseason All-America honor for the senior in as many days after earning a spot on College Sports Madness’ first team yesterday. Shippy was also named to the 2018 USA Softball College Player of the Year Top 50 watch list last week.

Shippy is the only Cowgirl to ever earn multiple All-America and Academic All-America honors after achieving both those individual feats in each of the past two seasons. She also is currently on pace to match or surpass several longstanding program records this season. The left-handed hitter owns the program’s career on-base percentage record at .502 and is the only player in team history with an above-.500 on-base percentage in multiple seasons (.543 — 2016, .517 — 2017). She also ranks fifth in career batting average at OSU (.381) and fourth in slugging percentage (.562).

Conigliaro also picked up the win on the mound, allowing five hits and three earned runs over 7 2/3 innings for his first win of the season.
