TRUMP: On road to ruin

| February 7, 2018 12:00 AM

Periodically, I have become somewhat impatient with the stodginess of our government, especially the presidency. When Donald Trump started to challenge some presidential behaviors I actually thought it could be a breath of fresh air.

I slowly realized that presidents often behave based on their perception of how most Americans expect them to act, which exudes superficiality and is also kind of boring. I am beginning to understand that America and its ideals are based as much on the aforementioned behavior as on constitutionality. I think that behavior is based on a fundamental understanding that behaving otherwise could be a slippery slope that might ultimately damage the bedrock principals of this nation.

The current presidency is going down that road and does not appear to be able to put on the brakes. I hope that we have not gone so far down the road that we are unable to repair the damage. That would be worse than a simple constitutional crisis.
