A 2010 Post Falls High graduate who was murdered on Thursday during an apparent carjacking incident in Odessa, Texas, is remembered as an easy-going man who enjoyed helping others.

Ryan Stebbins, 26, moved to Odessa from Kootenai County about two years ago to be with his older brother and was making strides for a better life, relatives said.

Stebbins worked at the Unitech Composites aerospace company in Hayden before moving to Texas.

Odessa Police and Odessa Fire Rescue responded to the 2200 block of Richmond Street in northeast Odessa at 12:45 a.m. on Thursday to assist Stebbins, who had been shot.

"Investigation revealed that while the suspect was attempting to steal Stebbins’ work vehicle, a disturbance occurred and Stebbins was shot in the chest," an Odessa Police press release states. "The suspect fled the scene in Stebbins’ work vehicle."

Stebbins was transported to Medical Center Hospital and later pronounced dead by medical personnel.

The vehicle was located abandoned at 1:20 a.m.

According to KWES-TV in Odessa, police interviewed a person of interest in the case, but no one has been arrested on a murder charge. The report states police have a description of the suspect, but it is not being released at this time.

A message with an Odessa Police detective from The Press on Friday was not returned.

Local authorities said they received notice on Friday from Odessa Police that Stebbins had died.

An investigation on the apparent carjacking case continues.
