LOREN BENOIT/Press Post Falls wrestler Coleton Kazmierczak starts to force Lake City wrestler Max Wester on his back Wednesday evening in the 182-pound match at Lake City High School.

COEUR d’ALENE — Things started and ended great for the Timberwolves in a wrestling dual with visiting Post Falls on Wednesday night.

The middle, well, didn’t.

Post Falls picked up pins in eight straight weights, along with forfeits in three to win a dual 72-9.

“Our kids battled hard, but we’re outmatched by them this year,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “They’re the best team in the state this year, and it showed tonight. We’ll get back to the drawing board and try to reel them in.”

Lake City’s Mahlon Clark opened the night with a pin at 220-pounds, with Connor Dremann earning a decision at 195.

“Mahlon had a real exciting match,” Owen said. “It was a close match until the third period. We knew we only had a few matches were we matched up really well with them. They’re a good team and wrestling well right now. They’ve showed it everywhere they’ve been also. They’re a tough team to compete with this year.”

“Really, the thing we’re proud of is the two matches we lost,” Post Falls coach Pete Reardon said. “They were great for us. Isaiah is getting better each match and did some great things. Kaden wrestled a great match and wrestled two great rounds. He’s really starting to put it together. All of our other kids wrestled great, and that’s great, but those upper weight guys are starting to wrestle really well. Those kids could be the difference for us and are starting to turn a corner.”

Jordan Grimm (120), A.J. De La Rosa (132), Matt McLeod (138), Jason Burchell (145), Wyatt Shelly (152), Tyler Morris (160), Braydon Huber (170) and Coleton Kazmierczak (182) had pins for Post Falls, which visits Lewiston tonight.

Lake City travels to Sandpoint for a Friday afternoon match before competing at the Bonners Ferry tournament on Saturday.
