COLUMNS: Offense taken

| December 28, 2018 12:00 AM

I read a column (opinion) Saturday by Brent Regan, chairman of the IFF Board and of the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee. His column was a strong disagreement with a recent Steve Cameron column (also an opinion).

First, let me say that I consider myself primarily a Republican. I regularly read Steve Cameron’s column but do not, necessarily, always agree with him. After all, it is an OPINION column.

Mr. Regan offers his OPINIONS as if they were fact. And he is certainly entitled to them. But I find his wording offensive. In particular, the fifth paragraph of his column says: “Not letting facts get in the way of a faulty opinion, Mr. Cameron goes on to claim - - - - -.” In the next paragraph, he says that: “IFF has been fighting against well-funded lobbyists and their ‘useful idiots’ that parrot industry sound bites.”

In his last paragraph, the most offensive of all, he refers Mr. Cameron to a proctologist if he wants to see reality, implying that Steve needs to pull his head out of his hind end.

Mr. Regan seems to be, and I assume he is, an intelligent, well-educated individual. There is no need for the type of comments he makes. He can, I am sure, make the same points with other, objective and less negative, wording.

While I may or may not agree with his position/OPINION on the subject, his use of such negative comments almost makes me ashamed to say that I am a Republican.
