CFA gets a Christmas Eve boost

Wayne and Deb Burton sure do good impressions of Saint Nick.
The couple walked into The Press on Christmas Eve morning and handed over $2,000 cash for Press Christmas for All.
Yes; cash.
The Burtons didn’t want their picture taken. They didn’t want any credit, so we beg their forgiveness for shining a spotlight on them in our Christmas Day newspaper. Their act of extreme generosity, though, was irresistible in illustrating the kind of people who live here; the kind who do everything they can to help their neighbors in need, especially at this most special time of the year.
Bless you, Burtons.
More money from the weekend came in, as well, but by the time The Press offices closed at noon on Monday, the afternoon mail had not arrived so an accurate accounting was not possible. The biggest question on Press Christmas for All supporters’ minds thus could not yet be answered: Was at least $12,028 raised in the last stages of the drive? If so, the program’s biggest single donor, Anonymous in Athol, promised to double his $10,000 gift. And that would push the campaign past the $200,000 mark.
And if not? Then Press Christmas for All, 2018 rendition, still will have shattered its $175,000 goal, making today the day of wonder it should be for every wide-eyed, wishful child in Kootenai County. Thanks to all of you who made today joyful for them.
Thursday’s Press will carry a full accounting of the campaign.
