Stay tuned for the final tally

Like a fat guy in a sleigh, Press Christmas for All updates are headed your way.

Because Saturday’s donations by mail and internet could not be tallied until this morning, we have no idea if the second goal in this year’s campaign was reached. On Friday, Press Christmas for All surpassed its $175,000 goal, thanks in part to a $10,000 donation from Anonymous in Athol. He hoped his check-writing hand was just warming up.

A in A challenged Press readers to find it in their hearts and bank accounts to push that number past $190,000. If that was done by midnight Saturday, Anonymous in Athol gleefully promised he would write another $10,000 check, which means the 2018 Press Christmas for All campaign would surpass $200,000.

To get there, though, $12,028 needed to come in Saturday.

As of Sunday morning, several callers had left phone messages for credit card donations. There was also an interesting looking envelope locked up in a secured area of the newspaper’s foyer that someone had dropped through the mail slot Saturday. Is it a check for $10? For $10,000? Or is it a letter to the editor ripping or revering the president of the United States?

These mysteries will soon be solved. On Christmas Day we hope to report whether or not at least $12,028 arrived Saturday. And in Thursday’s editions of The Press, we plan to share with readers the final tally for this 33rd annual campaign.

Happy Christmas Eve!
