AUBURN, Wash. — Senior Gavven Desjarlais and sophomore Alex Horning led the way as the Post Falls Trojans, minus a starter and key reserve due to injuries, beat tourney host Auburn 49-43 in the championship game of the Auburn Holiday Hoops Tournament on Saturday.

“Auburn is a team very similar to us, in that they’re not real experienced,” Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. “But they are long and athletic. We did a good job of playing team defense and not letting them get out in transition.”

Desjarlais totaled eight points, 12 rebounds and three steals for Post Falls (5-4), and held Auburn’s Isaiah Dunn, a 6-5 senior, to 11 points.

“Gavven dominated the game,” McLean said. “He held (Dunn) to 11 very, very hard-fought points, and kept him off the boards.”

Horning, a sophomore, added 17 points and 11 rebounds.

The Trojans were missing sophomore guard Caden McLean (concussion) and junior guard Terrell Mitchell (ankle), both hurt in Friday’s semifinal victory over Eisenhower of Yakima.

“We were missing two of our more offensive-oriented kids,” McLean said. “I was happy with all eight guys (that played), and all eight contributed.”

Post Falls returns to action starting Thursday at the Lake City Invitational.
