Coeur d'Alene takes fourth at Best of the West

PASCO, Wash. — Mitchell Moffat was the top finisher for Coeur d’Alene, finishing as runner-up at 170 pounds in the Best of the West tournament on Saturday at Pasco High.

Coeur d’Alene finished fourth with 124.5 points.

Other Viking placers were: Hunter Schueller (third at 126), Gunner Giulio (third at 160), Payton Keough (sixth at 132), Demarco Piazza (sixth at 145), Rome Borley (seventh at 120), Nick Dohm (seventh at 182), Dom Jessos (eighth at 113) and Jacob Krous (eighth at 126).

“Mitchell wrestled really well all weekend,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “He’s starting to get some confidence going after finishing fifth at Tri-State. It was just a grinder of a weekend, with some of our guys wrestling 10 matches in two days. We’re pleased with the progress we’re making. The kids are battling and continue to work hard.”

Coeur d’Alene returns to action against Borah and Madison on Jan. 3 at Borah High.

Tanner Dickson was third at 113, Casey Olesen (120) and Brady Nelson (145) fourth and Taggert Benefield seventh at 195 for Sandpoint, which finished 14th with 64 points.

Newberg (Ore.) won the tournament with 255 points.

Lakeland wins

home JV tourney

RATHDRUM — Lakeland finished with 257.5 points to win its 13-team home JV tournament.

A mix of varsity and junior varsity wrestlers competed in the tournament, with Post Falls finishing second at 218.5 points and Coeur d’Alene third with 162.
