Mitchell leads Trojans before leaving with injury

| December 22, 2018 12:00 AM

AUBURN, Wash. — Junior guard Terrell Mitchell scored a game-high 16 points before leaving with an injury, and the Post Falls Trojans romped past the Eisenhower Cadets of Yakima, Wash., 68-37 on Friday night in the first round of the Auburn Holiday Classic.

“He did a good job getting to the rim,” Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. “He gave us great energy off the bench. It’s the kind of game he’s capable of playing.”

Mitchell suffered an ankle injury late in the game, and was taken to the hospital afterward for further evaluation.

Sophomore guard Caden McLean suffered a concussion in the first quarter, and coach McLean said Post Falls (4-4) will be down two players for today’s championship game vs. Auburn at 5:30.

The Trojans nearly doubled their scoring output from the previous night, when they lost 39-35 at King’s of Seattle.

“When we make shots, it allows us to do more things defensively,” McLean said. “In reality, they weren’t any more open than last night, we just made ’em. And our transition defense was much better tonight.”

John McDonald led Ike with 12 points.
