MISSOULA, Mont. — Coeur d’Alene began its two-game road trip to this western Montana city in impressive fashion.

Mayson Blakeley-Whittaker scored 17 points as the fast-starting Vikings rolled past Big Sky 81-61 on Thursday night.

Six players reached double figures for the Vikings (4-2), with Carter Friesz scoring 12, Devon Johnson and Connor King 11 each, and Drew Hostetter 10.

Kale Edwards, who had a few Missoula fans in the stands after signing with Montana on Wednesday, added 12 points.

“We played really good, unselfish basketball,” Coeur d’Alene coach Tony Hanna said. “We did a good job of making the extra pass to the guy who is even more open. I couldn’t have drawn up the scorebook any better. I knew we had the potential, and it’s finally starting to come out.”

Coeur d’Alene hit 10 3-pointers, led by King and Hostetter with three apiece, and Blakeley-Whittaker with two. Also Coeur d’Alene, which averages 55 percent at the free-throw line, shot 79.2 percent (19 of 24) on Thursday night.

Camdyn LaRance scored a game-high 20 points for Big Sky.

Post Falls 35

SEATTLE — Shooting woes plagued the visiting Trojans in the loss to the Knights.

Post Falls was 6 of 20 on 2-point shots, 6 of 18 on 3-pointers. Of the two-pointers, 14 were taken in the lane, and the Trojans made just four.

“Our issue tonight wasn’t defense,” Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. “We can’t miss shots in the lane. We are playing to the level and the style of our opponents. Our skill level is good enough to win most of these games, but our decision-making is not where it needs to be.”

Colby Gennett hit four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points, six rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots for Post Falls (3-4). He had 11 of the Trojans’s 12 points in the first half. Terrell Mitchell had five points, four rebounds and two assists.

Nate Kleppe led King’s with 12 points.

“King’s did a good job using the entire (35-second) shot clock,” McLean said. “Tonight against their zone, we had a ton of opportunities.”
