P&Z: Salute commissioners

| December 19, 2018 12:00 AM

As I sat through the recent six-hour Planning Commission meeting, I couldn’t help but be impressed by the dedication and time that our “volunteer” Planning Commission members give to public service. The issues before them are complex and demand study, comprehension and preparation for the public meetings.

While many of us only occasionally show up at their monthly meetings when there’s a special item on the agenda, these folks are “full-timers” dealing with complex planning and zoning issues on a continuing basis. Besides the hours spent in their official meetings, they must review complex documents and form opinions on the issues before them — often with public ready to criticize their decisions.

It’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it. We owe thanks to these dedicated public servants.
