| December 16, 2018 12:00 AM

POST FALLS — The host Trojans held Central Valley to five first-quarter points en route to a comfortable 64-43 nonconference victory on Saturday evening at The Arena.

Post Falls (3-2) expanded its lead to 36-19 at halftime and enjoyed a double-digit advantage the rest of the way.

“Our defense, especially in the first half, was very good,” Trojans coach Mike McLean said. “Our help-side rotations were as good as we’ve had so far in this young season.”

Alex Horning led Post Falls with 18 points, while guards Colby Gennett and Caden McLean added 14 points each. Gennett had five assists and three blocked shots, while McLean shot 4-for-8 from 3-point range. Quinn Johnson led the Bears with 10 points.

COEUR d’ALENE — Ryan Roos scored a game-high 20 points for the Bulldogs in a win over the Timberwolves in nonleague play at Lake City High.

“We put together two good halves of basketball,” Sandpoint coach Wade Engelson said. “You don’t beat a 5A team that’s as good as Lake City without having several guys play well. It was a good win and something to build off of. Ryan was a beast tonight, rebounded the ball like crazy and made a lot of good plays for our team.”

Josh Stellflug had 10 points and six rebounds and Ben Janke six points and three assists for Lake City (0-5), which travels to Moscow on Wednesday.

“We played good defense again, which we’ve done the entire season, but we’re just struggling on offense,” Lake City coach Jim Winger said. “We need to keep working on offense. We’re just not shooting the ball well. Defensively, Sandpoint played well, but we need to figure things out offensively.”
