Michael Robert Anderson, 50

Mike Anderson, 50, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away Dec. 11, 2018.

Mike was born on June 27, 1968, in Hayward, Calif. He was raised in Twenty-Nine Palms, Calif. In 1986 Mike accepted Jesus as his savior and found great comfort in his personal relationship with his Lord.

After high school, he worked and lived in Arizona and Washington state before moving to North Idaho. In 1996, he married Kim (Chronic) Anderson. Soon after, Mike’s sister Christine Anderson and her young son, Shawn Michael Reid (1991) moved from California to be near them. Mike and Shawn always enjoyed the loving bond of a father and son. Mike and Kim also had two children, Riley Jo (2002) and Byron (2004).

In 2007, health issues prompted Mike to leave his job and he became a stay-at-home dad. He soon found his calling volunteering at the kids’ daycare, schools and in their athletic pursuits. Mike became a regular presence at Cornerstone Christian Academy, Atlas Elementary School, Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy and North Idaho Christian School. He helped whenever and wherever he was needed.

Mike always enjoyed sports and volunteered his time assisting with any team on which Shawn, Riley Jo, or Byron played. He frequently said he wasn’t there because he knew how to coach, but rather to care for and encourage the kids. If you played with Mike, YOU were his favorite player. He delighted in seeing kids who were new to the game or less skilled than others make a great play or find a moment of greatness on the field or court. He was every player’s biggest fan.

Mike loved motorsports of all kinds and found great pleasure in riding his Harley. From the moment the weather was warm enough, until his heated riding gear could no longer cut the chill of fall, he was riding. Along with his friends, Brian Amorose, Dave Barber and Paul Laster, he found joy and peace on winding back roads and open highways.

Mike is preceded in death by his mother, Gisela (Becker) Hammons. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Kim Anderson; children Riley Jo Anderson and Byron Anderson; sister Christine Anderson; nephew Shawn Reid; father Ray Anderson and his wife Vicci Anderson; stepfather Stuart Hammons and his wife Valerie Hammons; and stepbrothers Mike Hammons and Mark Hammons.

A memorial celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Canvas Church, 2200 N. Seventh St., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Gifts of remembrance to benefit Riley Jo and Byron’s future educational and personal needs can be made to the “Mike Robert Anderson Family Memorial Fund” at any Mountain West Bank branch.
