Kettles-turned-canvas showcase 'Love has an Army' theme

This year, The Salvation Army in Coeur d’Alene has taken a new, artistic spin on the Red Kettles in order to reach a lofty fundraising goal of $261,000.

It’s called Kettle of Dreams.

Four local artists were invited to paint a kettle using the national Kettle theme “Love has an Army.”

“We were blown away by the artist’s creations,” says Jorie Sanner, programming manager for The Salvation Army Kroc Center and co-creator of the project, “We will absolutely look to do this again next year.”

The artists and their kettles will be on hand at today’s ArtWalk in Coeur d’Alene, at several downtown art galleries.

The following galleries will feature kettles painted by these artists: Studio 107 — Christina Hull; Art Spirit Gallery — Connie Spurgeon; Arlon Rosenoff Fine Art Studio — Major Ronda Gilger; and Cd’A Galleries — Terry Lee.

ArtWalk is from 5 to 8 p.m. and offers the opportunity to stroll through downtown Coeur d’Alene and enjoy open galleries, businesses and restaurants.

After ArtWalk, the kettles will be moved to The Salvation Army Kroc Center for display Dec. 15 to 24.

The community can vote for their favorite artist by making a donation to their kettle.

The Red Kettle Campaign is The Salvation Army’s longest running and most important fundraiser. With everyone throwing in their spare change and cash, and the occasional gold coin, these funds are used throughout the year in the local community to help with clothing, food, emergency assistance and 12 Kroc Center community outreach programs.
