Lake City sweeps; Lakeland, Cd'A split

KELLOGG — After knocking off host Kellogg in its opener, Lake City clipped Lakeland 39-34 to sweep a pair of duals at Andrews Gymnasium on Wednesday.

“Lakeland has a great program and great coaching,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “Our kids wrestled well. We got the momentum early and did enough to hang on.”

Lake City had pins from Mahlon Clark (195 pounds) and Caden Hess (113) against Lakeland.

“Mahlon got thrown to his back and fought his guy off and got a pin later in the match,” Owen said. “We bumped Caden up from 106 to 113 knowing he’d compete hard, and he got a pin. I’m proud of all of our guys for stepping up big.”

Lakeland beat Coeur d’Alene in its other dual 42-30.

“The kids wrestled tough there,” Lakeland coach Rob Edelblute said. “We went into tonight a little shorthanded and had a kid miss weight, which hurt as well. We knew we were going in a little light, but the kids wrestled hard. I was impressed with them.”

Coeur d’Alene capped the night with a 57-21 win over Kellogg.

Garrett Ashby (152), Gunner Giulio (160) and Gavin Sherar (138) had wins for Coeur d’Alene.

“Garrett wrestled really well,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “Both Gunner and Gavin did also, but we’ve got to keep getting better.”

All four teams will compete in the Tri-State Invitational on Friday and Saturday at North Idaho College.
