CHRISTMAS: Spirit is hiding

| December 12, 2018 12:00 AM

I went around to seven places that sell Christmas trees last week. I went as a secret shopper and most of the places I went to were charity businesses.

I told the managers I was a woman alone and my children are all scattered and I wanted a $5 to $10 tree. I just told them I need a tree to help me remember the sweet moments of my life. I also told them that I was on a fixed income.

Every single tree stand told me they could not help me. I was also told to come back on Christmas Eve and I could get a free one, as they would be going to the dump.

Some mother out there can’t afford a tree. Some father out there can’t afford a tree. In the city of affluence and multi-millionaires, this is disgusting to me. Where is the heart for the people for Christmas?

Tiny Tims live in our city, but big bucks seem to forget the reason we celebrate Christmas at all. Many would be surprised at who turned me down. I myself am in disbelief.

We have a lot of Scrooges in our beautiful city and it pains my heart to know many families will go without. With so many charities out there and that is their reason to exist, I am disgusted! Where is the love and where is the spirit of Christmas in our lovely city?
