Alan Galland, 82

Alan Clay Galland, born to Clay and Gladys Galland on July 9, 1936, in Spearfish, S.D., passed away at 4:12 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, in Middleton, Idaho.

The Gallands moved from South Dakota to Rim Rock, Idaho, when Alan was eight months old. When he was young, he walked down the hill from his house every day to attend the Corbin School, a one-room schoolhouse.

He met his wife, Florence (Sharp) Galland when he was 20 and they married a year later. They spent the next 61 years together. They spent three years of their marriage on the coast and lived at the base of Mount St. Helens, but lived mostly in the Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, area. They had five children, 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Alan’s family was his passion. He spent his life surrounded by loved ones — camping fishing, playing cards and teaching the younger generations how to swim.

He worked as a carpenter for 23 years before an accident pushed him into early retirement. He was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and he used his talents as a carpenter to help build churches in Coeur d’Alene, Priest River, and in Pucallpa, Peru.

Alan was a builder, a teacher and a hand to hold. He laughed for the sake of joy, cried for the sake of strangers, and gave of himself for the sake of love.

He is survived by his wife, Florence; their five children, Wendy (Dale) Stoodley, Wendall (Pennie) Galland, Wayne (Lori) Galland, Wanda Galland and Wesley Galland; his sister, Loretta Kenny; his brother, Duane (Kay) Galland; 12 adoring grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren as well as uncounted, extended and honorary family members.

Alan’s memorial service will be a celebration of his life, held at at 3 p.m. on June 22, 2019, at the Edgemere Seventh-day Adventist Church, in Priest River, Idaho.
