“We gave up three 3-pointers in the second quarter, and didn’t close out on their shooters,” said Timberlake coach Mike Menti, whose team fell behind 21-13 at halftime. “We got a little lazy on defense. We never seemed to be in rhythm in the first half, and that was tough.”

POST FALLS — The host Jaguars led for most of the game, but the Crusaders from Colbert, Wash., rallied in the second half and took the lead late at Post Falls Middle School.

“We turned the ball over too much, and our defense wasn’t as good as it needed to be,” Genesis Prep coach Marsell Colbert said. “Give Northwest Christian credit, they battled ... and they wanted it more. They did the little things, and we didn’t.”

Jonny Hillman of Genesis Prep (1-1) hit five 3-pointers and led all scorers with 30 points. He also had four assists. Kon Ajang added 26 points and eight rebounds for the Jaguars.

Bonners Ferry 64

Sandpoint 46

BONNERS FERRY — The host Badgers saw their 22-point lead whittled down to nine in the second half, yet Bonners Ferry prevailed over the Bulldogs by connecting on 7 of 12 from beyond the arc and outrebounding the Bulldogs.

The Badgers (3-1) jumped out to a 24-6 first-quarter lead behind Seth Bateman’s 25 points and Dylan Hittle’s ability to find his teammates around the perimeter against Sandpoint’s lethargic defense start.

“We showed up today and it was obvious that we weren’t ready to play,” Sandpoint coach Wade Engelson said. “Bonners Ferry took it to us.”

Sandpoint outscored Bonners Ferry 30-24 in the second half behind the resurgence of Kobe Banks (15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals) and Alex Stockton (9 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals) who was the catalyst to Sandpoint’s run despite playing in foul trouble.

On Tuesday, Sandpoint visits Kellogg and Bonners Ferry travels to Lakeland.
