Edelblute wins title at CV tourney

SPOKANE VALLEY — Lakeland’s Alex Edelblute was the area’s lone champion at the Inland Empire Classic, beating Nathan Chang of Eastmont by an 8-0 major decision in the 120-pound championship match on Saturday at Central Valley High.

“He wrestled tough all weekend,” Lakeland coach Rob Edelblute said. “He was seeded third in the tournament and came all the way through. He controlled the entire final match, and was just really dominant. I was happy with his result.”

Sam Edelblute (126 pounds) and Ryan Quimby (145) finished third, Connor Heim fifth at (182) and Riley Siegford (132) sixth for Lakeland, which finished seventh with 137.5 points.

“Overall, I thought the kids wrestled well,” Rob Edelblute said. “We were missing three guys out of the lineup, but was happy with their performance. This is a great dialing-in tournament and great way to start things out.”

Payton Keough (132), Gavin Sherar (138) and Gunner Giulio (160) were third for Coeur d’Alene. Dylan Moffat (106) and Nick Dohm (182) were fourth, Nolan Randles (145) fifth, Rome Worley (120) and Hunter Schueller (126) sixth for the Vikings, who finished sixth with 147 points.

I was pretty happy with our guys,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “They competed hard. We’ve got some things to work on and things to fix, but I think we’ll be just fine.”

Chiawana of Pasco won the tournament.

On Wednesday at Andrews Gymnasium in Kellogg, Coeur d’Alene will face Lakeland and Kellogg, while Lakeland wrestles Lake City and Coeur d’Alene.

West Valley Wrestle-Rama

SPOKANE — Caden Hess (106 pounds) and Seth Nutting (160) each went a perfect 5-0, as did the Timberwolves to win the West Valley Wrestle-Rama at West Valley High.

Lake City beat Quincy (Wash.) 30-27 in the championship dual.

“This group has a lot of mat time,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “They’re wrestling hard, and winning matches because of it. This group competes so well. We’re wearing guys down in the third period. It was a total team effort to get that last dual win. They just competed really well.”

Lake City will face Lakeland and Kellogg on Wednesday at Andrews Gymnasium in Kellogg.

Timberlake trio

wins titles

at George Wild Invitational

KELLOGG — Isaiah Evans (126 pounds), Caleb Miller (152) and Joey Follini (182) won individual titles for Timberlake in the George Wild Invitational at Kellogg High.

Trevor Cady (285) was second for Timberlake, which finished third with 146.5 points. Evans was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler for lower weights (98 to 145 pounds).

Ryan Graves (106), Bryce Smith (113) had wins for Post Falls, with Trojans Logan Cerrick (113) and Jonathan Hill (145) finishing second. The Trojans were fifth as a team with 141 points.

Payton Wysong (98) and Lucas Williams (120) were second for Lakeland, which finished sixth with 125.5 points.

Malachi Fleck (138) and Isaiah Fleck (160) finished runner-up for Sandpoint, which finished seventh with 122 points.

Carter Stepro (98) won his bracket for tournament host Kellogg, with Dakota Eixenberger (106) second and Austin Stepro (160) third. Kellogg was ninth with 104.5 points.

Orofino won the team title with 193 points.
