Viks send five to semifinals
SPOKANE VALLEY — Dylan Moffat (106 pounds), Rome Worley (120), Hunter Schueller (126), Payton Keough (132) and Nick Dohm (182) advanced to the semifinals of the Inland Empire Classic for Coeur d’Alene, which is seventh with 85 points after the first day of competition at Central Valley High on Friday.
“Those guys just wrestled aggressive and smart,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “They just kept getting better as the day went on. It was nice to see Dylan and Rome get a couple of wins in their first varsity matches. For a first time out of the gate, it was a good day. We had a couple of setbacks in the quarterfinals, so we’ll see how the kids respond.”
Alex Edelblute (120), Sam Edelblute (126) and Ryan Quimby (145) advanced to the semifinals for Lakeland, which is eighth with 79 points.
Both Lakeland and Coeur d’Alene have five wrestlers remaining in the consolation bracket.
Mead leads the tournament with 143.5 points, followed in second by Chiawana with 142.5.
The tournament resumes today at 10 a.m., with championship finals slated for 4:30 p.m.

HERMISTON, Ore. — The visiting Trojans won 12 matches by pin to romp past the Bulldogs.
“All of our guys on top looked really, really good,” Post Falls coach Pete Reardon said. “Isaiah (Laguna) had a great match where a kid kind of got aggressive and headbutted him and was penalized too. Isaiah did a good job of fighting through it, channeling the anger and getting a pin. It was a hotly contested match, and he took it to him. Terran (Sharbrough) had a great scramble and took his kid down and pinned him. But those were some back and forth matches.”
Post Falls, now 5-0 in dual matches, competes at the Tri-State Invitational next Friday and Saturday at North Idaho College.
