COEUR d’ALENE — It took a half, but once Coeur d’Alene got used to its new digs, things started to get better on Friday night.

Playing on Viking Court, the school’s new gymasium, Connor King scored 15 points, shooting 5-for-11 from beyond the 3-point line, to lead the Vikings past North Central 50-44 in a nonleague game.

“We just did a better job offensively in the second half,” said Coeur d’Alene coach Tony Hanna, whose team trailed 22-20 at halftime. “Wednesday was our first time in the gym, but the hoops weren’t set to where they’re supposed to be. Tonight was the first time with everything where it was supposed to be. We haven’t shot as well as we’d expected to this year, but it was good to see a few of them go through. We just got better quality shots in the second half, and a better job executing.”

Leon Sayers scored 15 points for North Central.

“I really felt we won the game on the defensive end,” Hanna said. “Sayers is a good player, can shoot it, but I felt we did a good job on him.”

Kale Edwards scored 11 points for Coeur d’Alene (2-2), which hosts Lakeland on Dec. 18.

They found ways to get extra possessions off offensive rebounds, and they scored a lot out of those. And the other thing, any time we turned the ball over, they were able to score immediately on us.”
