- WRESTLING

BURNABY, British Columbia — Minus five starters, four because they didn’t have passports, the shorthanded North Idaho Cardinals fell 28-15 to NAIA Simon Fraser on Friday night in NIC’s final dual before the holiday break.

“Simon Fraser, they wrestled real well, and we just left too many guys on the other side of the border because of passports,” NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. “But I don’t want to take anything away from Simon Fraser; they wrestled well. Izaiah (Duran), Tate (Christian Grover) and Hunter (Gregerson) did a good job wrestling some tough kids.”

Duran, Grover and Gregerson each won by decision for NIC, which moved up to fourth from 20th in the latest NJCAA poll.

NIC gets another shot at Simon Fraser on Jan. 24.

The Cardinals (6-4) return from the holiday break Jan. 10 at home vs. Eastern Oregon.
