JASON ELLIOTT/Press Post Falls sophomore Lane Reardon makes his move in his match with Lake City senior Devin Sorrelle at 120 pounds during Thursday’s dual at Lake City High.

COEUR d’ALENE — Leading 3-1 with 10 seconds remaining in his 132-pound match, Lake City senior Ricky Thomas just went for it.

Post Falls’ Nick McLeod just found his way back.

Thomas attempted to take down McLeod in the final moments, only to be put onto his back, with McLeod scoring a takedown and near fall for a 6-3 decision for Post Falls.

“Nick just found a way to win,” Post Falls coach Pete Reardon said. “He needed to find a way to win. Sometimes, you’ve got to win ugly. Hats off to that kid (Thomas) as well. It was a great match.”

“Ricky had the lead with 10 seconds left, and didn’t need to shoot when he did,” Lake City coach Corey Owen said. “But he’s still trying to score points, and I liked seeing that in him. It didn’t work out for him tonight, but I’d rather see that in a kid than sitting on a lead.”

Post Falls won five matches by pin, beating Lake City 54-21 in a dual on Thursday at Lake City High.

“I thought Lake City wrestled us tough,” Reardon said. “A few of those matches, we might have had them outgunned. But a few of those matches were really hotly contested. They’ve had some tough kids in the past, but this might be the toughest group Lake City has had in a while. Corey does a good job with those guys, and you can tell him and his assistant coaches have been working hard with them.”

Terran Sharbrough (285 pounds), Isaac Jessen (126), A.J. De La Rosa (138), Ridge Lovett (145) and Tyler Morris (160) had pins for Post Falls, which travels to Hermiston tonight.

“I thought our kids wrestled great tonight,” Reardon said. “In dual meets, you can’t give up bonus points (three for a decision, six for a major decision, forfeit or pinfall). If you can get them, we need to get them, and our kids did a good job of getting kids on their backs. In the matches we lost, we just tried not to give up those bonus points.”

Caden Hess (106 pounds), Porter Howard (152), Zane Monaghan (182) and Connor Dremann (220) earned wins for Lake City. Both Monaghan and Dremann won by pin.

“The kids I’ve got are just competing,” Owen said. “We didn’t back down to any of them. We scrapped right with them. Caden had a big win, and so did Monaghan and Dremann. Porter’s match was also a big win. The kids wrestled tough tonight. We didn’t win the match, but I was impressed with the effort. I don’t know if there’s a good loss, but it was one tonight. We can build on this going forward.”

Lake City will compete in the West Valley duals tournament on Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
