Michael L. Sumner

Michael “Mike” L. Sumner was tragically taken from us in an automobile accident in Wyoming on Oct. 5, 2018. Mike was born on June 21, 1965, in Montague City, Mass., to Max and Martha Sumner. In 1966 they moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, then later to Wolf Lodge. Mike graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1983.

He enjoyed sports, especially football, and was a Seahawks fan. Mike loved hunting deer and elk locally, and hunted antelope and shot a buffalo in 2005 in Wyoming. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking with his dog Misty, huckleberry picking, mushroom hunting, going to Fort Flagler and going for drives and exploring various places.

Mike was a journeyman painter. In the past he did long-haul trucking, welding and did odd jobs as a youth. Mike was an active person and lived life to the fullest with many adventures where ever he lived, whether in Idaho or other places he lived in, including Montana and Wyoming. Mike had been a Jehovah Witness for most of his adult life and attended services here in Idaho and when he lived in Newcastle, Wyo.

This free-spirited nature lover will be missed by many. Mike was preceded in death by his older brother, David Sumner. Mike is survived by his parents who reside in Wolf Lodge, his sisters, Shari Galliher of Hayden and Michelle Sumner of Rathdrum, his nieces, nephews, and numerous aunts and uncles and cousins. His body was cremated and memorial services will be held in the spring.
