SPIRIT LAKE — Taryn Soumas scored 17 of her game-high 28 points in the third quarter as the Timberlake Tigers defeated the visiting Coeur d’Alene Vikings 76-57 in nonleague play Tuesday night.

“We did a really good job in transition tonight,” Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. “I was really impressed with our transition offense tonight. Both team really just made shots tonight. They pressed us pretty much the entire game, and that led to a lot of possessions. Both teams did a great job of knocking down shots tonight.”

Kelly Horning scored 16 points, Emma Whiteman 14 and Jaelyn Brainard-Adams 13 for Coeur d’Alene (1-4), which hosts North Central on Friday.

KELLOGG — The visiting Hawks led 14-0 after the first quarter, then weathered a Wildcat comeback before escaping with the nonleague victory at Andrews Gymnasium.

Katy Ryan had 10 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots for Lakeland (2-3), and Izzy Kirk added 10 points.

Kellogg (4-2) pulled within one point in the waning moments, before two free throws by Taylor Elpers gave the Hawks some breathing room.

“We played an incredible first quarter, and a great second quarter, and then just lost our momentum in the second half,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. “Kellogg made a great run, and we started playing not to lose a little bit.”

Elpers finished with eight points and seven rebounds, and Mel Loutzenhiser had seven points and four steals.

Hailey Cheney scored 12 points to lead Kellogg, which travels to Moscow on Friday.
