Ross Oliver Walkinshaw Jr., 78

Ross Oliver Walkinshaw Jr., 78, passed away Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He was born Aug. 2, 1940, in Hollywood, Calif., the son of Ross Oliver and Hazel (Gant) Walkinshaw Sr.

Ross moved in 1947 with his family to Coeur d’Alene and attended and graduated from Post Falls High School in 1959. He learned to fly airplanes at the Hayden Airport from 1959 to 1963, obtaining his pilot’s license at age 19 and later his instructor certification. He was the youngest licensed pilot in the state at that time.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Germany from 1963 to 1966, returning to Coeur d’Alene following his honorable discharge. Ross started working on boats and motors at his home, establishing Rosco’s Mobile Marine and officially starting his small business in 1983 of repairing and storing boats.

Ross loved to go fast on the water, test driving boats he worked on.

Ross married Vicki Eales Evenoff in 1973 in Coeur d’Alene, and together they built their home and lived in Coeur d’Alene for 37 years until Vicki’s death in 2010. He continued to live there for a total of 71 years, retiring in 2017 due to an injury.

His hobbies included buying used motorhomes and refurbishing the mechanical components while Vicki remodeled and upholstered the interior. They traveled the United State and Germany, locating his family heritage in Scotland. The Scottish clan Walkinshaw means ‘Walk in Forest,’ a heritage he was very proud of.

Ross was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Gwen. His survivors include his son, Michael and his grandsons, Austin and Ian.

Memorial services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814
