Lester LeRoy Slife

Les passed away peacefully on Nov. 30, 2018, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He was born Aug. 31, 1936, to Walter and Goldie Slife, in Denver, Colo. The family moved to California in 1948.

Les graduated from Excelsior High School in Norwalk, Calif., in 1954. He then joined the Navy in January of 1955 and served four years on the Hancock Aircraft Carrier. He was honorably discharged in December of 1959. Les went to work that same month at North American Aviation, where he was a quality control tech on the Apollo Space Program. Les worked in HVAC in Orange County, Calif., until moving to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 1978, where he worked at the Greyhound Park as a maintenance director until retirement in 2001.

Les was drill master of the Satellite Mounted Drill Team, and served with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Posse. He loved hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and horses.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Goldie Slife; sister, Beverly Poirier and son, Steven Anthony Slife. Les is survived by his life partner, Darlene D. Prater; niece, Debbie Bradley Daw; nephews, Robert Lee Bradley and Terry Palmer.

A viewing for Les will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, at English Funeral Chapel Coeur d’Alene.
