Wallace wins Silver Valley Tournament

WALLACE — Zack Welch scored a game-high 33 points for the Wallace Miners in a 55-48 win over the Kellogg Wildcats in the championship game of the Silver Valley Tournament at Kirby Krulitz Court.

Hunter Stutzke scored 10 points for Wallace (3-0), which hosts St. Maries on Friday.

Gavin Luna scored 14 points for Kellogg (1-2), which hosts Lakeland on Tuesday.

ST. MARIES — Dan Howard made two key plays in overtime to lift the Lumberjacks past the Pirates in nonleague play.

First, Howard drew the fifth foul on 6-foot-5 Spencer Schumacher of Prairie. Then, his three-point play put the Lumberjacks (2-0) ahead to stay.

“Fouling out Schumacher was a big deal, because he was a tough matchup for us,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said.

Coy Sands and Jackson Pritchard each hit 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as the Lumberjacks rallied from down six points after three to force overtime.

Pritchard finished with 14 points. Eli Gibson added 12 points and four steals. Howard had nine points and eight rebounds.

Schumacher led Prairie, last year’s consolation champions in 1A Division II, with 14 points.

St. Maries travels to Timberlake on Wednesday.

PALOUSE, Wash. — Talon Twoteeth scored 18 points and Kenyon SpottedHorse scored 14 points for the Knights, who rallied from a halftime deficit to beat the Vikings in a nonleague game.

“We were kind of playing from behind for three quarters,” said Lakeside coach James Twoteeth, whose team trailed 27-19 at halftime before outscoring the Vikings 37-23 in the second half. “We were a little sluggish in the first quarter, and they were hitting their 3-pointers. We switched up our defense at the half and really limited their shots.”

Day Day Higgins scored 13 points for Lakeside (2-1), which competes in the Lapwai Shootout next Saturday.

SPOKANE — The Hawks led by 11 at halftime following a 26-point second quarter, but sputtered offensively in the second half as the host Eagles rallied in the Border Clash at West Valley High.

Shooting guard Bryan Andrews made 10 3-pointers and scored 38 points for West Valley. He hit three 3s in the third quarter as part of the Eagles’ comeback.

“We put a lot of attention on (Nick) Drynan,” a point guard who scored 23 points against Lake City on Friday night, Lakeland assistant coach Tyrel Derrick said. “Andrews did a good job finding spaces, and we didn’t do a good job recognizing him.”

Ben Zubaly led Lakeland (1-1) with 14 points. Josiah Haaland added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Hawks, and Jalen Skalskiy had 11 points and eight boards.

Lakeland travels to Kellogg on Tuesday.

Jacob James scored 11 points for Timberlake (1-2), giving coach Mike Menti his first win as coach after taking over the program this year.

Riley Trogden scored 11 points for Mullan (0-3), which faces Clark Fork (Mont.) on Tuesday in Alberton.
