COEUR d’ALENE — Drake Prohaska had two assists and a goal, Cooper Proctor had three saves and the Coeur d’Alene Vikings beat the Sandpoint Bulldogs 6-0 in a nonleague match at Coeur d’Alene High on Tuesday.

“Overall, the midfield dominated the game,” first-year Coeur d’Alene coach Braden Ridgewell said. “Between the midfield and defensive line, we were able to hold the ball for most of the match. “They just came out and dominated the first half,” Coeur d’Alene coach Andy Vredenburg said of Sandpoint. “They wanted it more, and they capitalized on their opportunities. Zoe Cox scored in the 55th minute for Coeur d’Alene (1-1).

“They were winning the 50/50s; they basically had more desire than us,” Vredenburg said of the first half. “I think the girls were a little shocked, but the girls regrouped and showed some heart in the second half.”

“The girls were ready to get on the field after dealing with indoor practices most of last week and the beginning of this one,” said Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Stacy Smith of the team’s season and league opener. “We finally have our first game under our belt, and I’m pleased with the result. We certainly have a few things to work on to build to what we’d like to see by the end of the season, but I was happy with the play of our veterans and their leadership on the field.”

Charter had some players out due to not having 10 practices before Tuesday’s game.

“We had to get creative with our lineup and rely on a handful of freshmen, and they showed up,” Smith said. “Lucky had an excellent debut with two goals and an assist.”
