ODs: Let them die

| August 19, 2018 1:00 AM

I couldn’t agree more with Leslie Messner’s guest opinion, “Soft Isn’t Helpful for Drug Offenses,” Aug. 13, page 18, C1. My question is, who came up with Narcan?

If someone wants to shoot, snort, eat, drink or smoke whatever their drug of choice is, who are we to come up with a way to bring them back from the brink of death? They CHOSE to do it. They WANTED to do it. If they die because of it that should be their problem.

I have a best friend with MS. You best believe she and her family wish there was a drug she could take to make her symptoms and pain disappear. She’s a loving grandmother to three young children whom she would love to be able to pick up and run around with, but she has to settle for sitting on the ground with them because her legs don’t work. There are so many horrible diseases in the world, but we come up with one to save people who OD? I don’t get it and yes, maybe I’m harsh about it, but when I watch Live PD and see a kid on there who they give Narcan to THREE times a week? Give me a break. He’s an idiot and we keep saving him.

Let’s save people who actually have something to offer others. Not people who obviously don’t really care if they live or die in the first place.

Also, Janice Camarena’s letter “A Grieving Mother’s Message to the NFL” should be sent to owners and coaches of ALL sports teams. We should be doing everything we can to help veterans, not druggies!
