CORRIDOR: Sims off base

| August 17, 2018 1:00 AM

Apparently, former legislator Kathy Sims hasn’t received the memo that McEuen Park is an overwhelming success.

While the park has been embraced by the community’s children and many others, young and old, local and visitor, Sims is still spreading contempt for the viewtiful greenspace that has become the gathering place that former Mayor Sandi Bloem envisioned.

Consider Sims’ first sentence in a recent guest opinion for the Coeur d’Alene Press: “You thought your BEAUTIFUL downtown park was expensive, wait!”

The target for Sims’ vitriol this time is a possible health corridor. But, in trying to inflame the dwindling number of people who still listen to her, Sims can’t resist taking a swipe at popular McEuen Park. After all, she and Mary Souza split this town with their failed 2012 attempt to use the park overhaul to recall Bloem and three council members who backed it on multiple 4-3 votes.

Sims has opposed several other worthy proposals that have transformed Coeur d’Alene: city financial support for the Kroc Center, purchase of the old DeArmond Mill for an education corridor, the mental health crisis center, etc.

All of which makes me wonder: How many times can a person be wrong before everyone tunes her out?
