SHOLEH: Point to ponder

| August 15, 2018 1:00 AM

Sholeh Patrick’s column on class included the idea that “we subconsciously dehumanize others first, then find justifying reasons.” That statement immediately drew my attention to how that is exhibited, even in relationships that are mentally or physically abusive.

People who have the need to dehumanize others are operating from a place of fear. Fear keeps people in bondage. Some people realize exactly where they are but are unwilling to change because to change means the individual must face themselves in order to give up or let go that part that has kept them in bondage.

For a person to dehumanize another it goes deeper, into the unconscious level where all of our memories and past experiences are kept.
