TRAFFIC: A tunnel proposal
Today was another day of frustration on U.S. 95. No accidents but traffic this morning, well after rush hour, was over 20 cars deep coming in from Hayden to Appleway, more cars than can hit a green light cycle. It took 25 minutes for what I can do in six minutes to reach the hospital after hours.
Band-Aid fixes are proposed by Idaho DOT such as more of the very frustrating center barriers at 95 and Lacey Avenue.
The solution is supposed to be the opening up and widening of Ramsey Road… But last I heard that is more than 10 years away. As proposed, Ramsey Road North would take a circuitous road around the airport, requiring much expensive imminent domain take over of valuable taxable property and delays. The simple rapid solution, to dig a simple tunnel straight across airport property and under a few feet of runway (if any) escapes our local planners and we remain stuck with congestion on 95 beyond its capacity.
As the saying goes… “Idaho is too great to litter” … And “more 95 delays are too great to put up with.”
