BOATING: And justice for none

| August 8, 2018 1:00 AM

Whether you want to call it Lake Coeur d’Alene or Coeur d’Alene Lake, it makes no difference. Our judicial system just put every boater at risk.

Now if you can admit to the police that you drank as many as 10 plus beers, lie to them that you weren’t driving and have your friends lie for you as well, you will get off scot-free from prosecution. This has proven itself factual with the most recent case of involuntary manslaughter that wound its way through the courts.

This miscarriage of justice is a travesty to all of those who abide by the law of the land. The irresponsible drunks on the lake can now continue to flourish without true fear of any substantial reprimand. Talk about not taking responsibility for one’s actions.

I know it’s said that he will have to live with it for the rest of his life, but that would require a conscience. There is no way this individual has one of those. He was even given a DUI five months later and really nothing happened. With that fact, I don’t believe the accident nor the deaths of three people was involuntary.

Disease or not, you choose to take that first drink and you should be held responsible for everything. Zero tolerance should be given when loss of life occurs. Where is the justice for the victims? It’s too bad when our officers do all they can and the system lets down both the victims and those trying to do their jobs the best that they can do.
