Lums fall short to Burley
LEWISTON — Marcus Manzardo and Alex Karns had two RBIs each for the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen to rally from a three-run deficit before falling to the Burley Green Sox 7-6 in the state Class A tournament at Harris Field on Friday.
“Both teams were really good tonight and had some great responses to some bad situations,” Coeur d’Alene coach Erik Karns said. “Our kids battled through the entire game. Both teams played a great game.”
Both RBIs by Manzardo and Alex Karns came with two-outs in the fifth inning.
“We had runners on base and ended up hitting the ball right at guys,” Erik Karns said. “We played a very, very good game tonight.”
Riley Smith went 3 for 3 with two runs scored and Jake Brown had two hits and two runs scored for Coeur d’Alene, which left 11 runners on base.
Andrew Ferrin scored the winning run with one out in the bottom of the seventh for Burley.
Coeur d’Alene (38-16) will face St. Anthony today at 4 p.m.
Rocky Mountain will face Burley at 7 p.m.
A Coeur d’Alene win, along with a win by Burley could put both teams into Sunday’s championship game.
If Rocky Mountain defeats Burley, the winner of the Coeur d’Alene-St. Anthony game will face the loser of tonight’s late game at 1 p.m., followed by the championship game at 4 on Sunday.
