SPIRIT LAKE — The Sandpoint boys and girls track teams distanced the field to sweep the team titles at the Timberlake Invitational at Timberlake High on Friday.

Lakeland’s Jillian Mael won the 100- and 200-meter dash for the Lakeland, which finished second to Sandpoint by nine points in the girls team standings.

- TENNIS

SPOKANE — The Post Falls doubles team of Matt McLeod and Jason Benton, as well as a Trojans mixed doubles team of Igor Samaragzick and Sheri Mae Espina advanced in the consolation rounds of the Inland Empire tournament in Spokane.

Lake City’s No. 2 singles player Chris Vargas went 3-1, advanced to the quarterfinals before falling 6-2, 6-3 to a Hanford High player in the quarterfinals.

Jack DuCoeur went 2-1 at No. 1 singles for the Timberwolves, while the boys doubles team of Paul Wineinger and Chris Peterson went 0-2, dropping its first match in a 10-7 tiebreaker.

Lake City’s girls doubles team of Chloe Teets and Schreyer Jones went 1-1, beating Gonzaga Prep and losing to Cashmere. The mixed doubles team of Madison Morris and Nick Brown also went 1-1, beating Sunnyside and losing to second-seeded Othello.

Cd’A boys, Lake City girls

second at Kraus invite

Austin Mitchell and Sam Johnson each shot a 78 to pace the Coeur d’Alene boys to a second-place finish in the Kraus Invitational at Avondale Golf Club in Hayden on Friday.

Jack Reeves shot a 73 to earn medalist honors for Gonzaga Prep, which claimed the boys team title by five strokes over the Vikings.

Lake City’s girls finished runner-up to Mead High of Spokane in the girls tournament, held at Hayden Lake Country Club.

Martina Hicks fired an 86 to lead Coeur d’Alene to a seventh-place finish. Other individual scores were not available.

Area teams return to action on Monday at the Sandpoint Invitational at The Idaho Club.
