Janet Swales, 89

Janet Gwendolyn (Ortega) Swales passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at 4:30 p.m., while surrounded by her family and loved ones at the Schneidmiller Hospice House of North Idaho. She was 89 years old at the time of her passing and lived in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Janet was born on August 19, 1928, in Fort Bragg, Calif. to Robert T. Moore and Anna Catherine Jewett Moore. She had two older brothers, Robert and Donald. She attended Balboa High School in San Francisco, Calif. Janet married William Ortega on Jan. 28, 1950. They moved to Idaho in 1964. Will preceded her in death on August 31, 1978.

She loved her job at Kootenai Memorial Hospital as a receptionist and also worked at Clark’s Jewelry and Kootenai Electric.

Janet married Millard O. Swales on April 14, 1985. They lived in Hope, Idaho until Oct. 2011. Millard passed away at 93.

Janet loved to spend time with her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening and playing with her pets, Duke and Fred. Jan was quick to laugh, loved with her whole heart and gave generously of spirit to all that she met. She will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her three daughters, Cathy, Diane and Trish; as well as son-in-laws, John Rider and Jim Solomon. Jan had seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion and a lasting impact on the lives of all she touched.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Janet may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church, Schneidmiller Hospice House of North Idaho, 4-H of North Idaho or Kootenai County Humane Society.
