Wheelchair races Saturday will benefit disabled veterans

| April 26, 2018 1:00 AM

STATELINE — The Wheelchair Race for Disabled Veterans will be rolling through Cruisers Bar and Grill this weekend.

The race welcomes friendly competition as contestants participate in individual heats while having fun racing to raise funds and awareness for disabled veterans in need.

"Some simple things in life that we all take for granted, these people can't do at all," said George Kendall, one of the event coordinators. "There are some who can't even change their own light bulbs."

The event, in its second year, will benefit the Free Handyman Service for Disabled Veterans, located at 4507 W. Wellesley, Spokane, which provides labor and assistance to disabled vets.

"They don't have the extra money, and as we all know, to get your disability is really hard," Kendall said. "They make it really hard on the veterans."

Admission  to the Wheelchair Race for Disabled Veterans is free, however donations of auction items, time and money are all welcome. The day will also feature a 50/50 raffle.

The races are Saturday at Cruisers, 6105 W. Seltice Way, starting at 1 p.m.
