Courtesy photo On Sunday the Renovators under-18 volleyball team competed in the Evergreen Regional volleyball tournament with 31 teams from eastern Washington, North Idaho and western Montana. They won 6 matches and beat two of those teams twice to win the regional championship. Courtesy photo Post Falls High senior baseball player Tanner McCliment-Call is this week’s Trojan Athlete of the Week. In four league games last week vs. Lake City and Coeur d’Alene, Tanner went 9 for 13 at the plate (a .692 batting average ) including two doubles and a home run. He drove in nine runs and scored five runs.

LITTLE LEAGUE

Weather forced Coeur d’Alene Little League inside the Canfield Middle School gym for its 2018 Opening Day ceremonies on April 7. The program was entitled “Looking to the future while remembering the past.”

This was president Jeffrey Smith’s last opening day as presiding president. During his tenure and with a huge amount of assistance and guidance from the board of directors the league has grown by over 100 players, installed new scoreboards at the Canfield Sports Complex and have drafted plans to install two new scoreboards on existing fields. Coeur d’Alene Little League serves over 350 players on 28 teams and will play over 200 games on seven fields through out Coeur d’Alene this spring.

SELECT SOCCER

Sting Timbers FC 03 Girls: The Sting beat the IEYSA Storm FC G03 5-0 last weekend. Sting Timbers’ Amber Aittama had 2 goals, while Holly Hudson, Chloe Biediger and Lily Fletcher each had 1 goal. Keeper Hailey Parks had 8 saves.

Sting Timbers 04 boys Red: The Sting played to a 2-2 tie in a match April 14 in Quincy, Wash. Bryce Allred and Alex Reyes each scored once for the Sting.

Last weekend the Sting Timbers played in the qualifying round of the Washington Cup at Plantes Ferry in Spokane Valley. The first match against Quincy ended in a 2-1 loss. The lone Sting goal was scored by Kohrt Weber on an assist from Bryce Allred.

Game two against the Spokane Pumas ended in a 3-2 loss. Sting goals were scored by Noah Janzen, on an assist from Kohrt Weber, and Bryce Allred on a penalty kick.

The final match against United SC La Raza ended a 3-3 tie. Alex Reyes scored 2 goals on assists from Kohrt Weber and Bryce Allred scored 1 goal on an assist from Andon Brandt.

Sting Timbers Girls 04 Red: The Sting competed in the Washington Cup soccer tournament East Qualifier round last weekend at Plantes Ferry Soccer Complex in the Spokane Valley. The Timbers started their round against the Spokane Breakers FC G04 Red Griffith team on Friday, winning 2-1. Kayla Dearmin and Gabby Roberts teamed for the two goals, and Kayla Dearmin had an assist.

Saturday the Timbers started by hosting the Endeavor Soccer Academy 04 Wallace squad, losing 2-1. Lucy Evans had the goal, with Isabella Lucky assisting. In the afternoon game against Hells Canyon FC 04 Skinner, the Timbers won 2-0. Isabella Lucky scored, as did Kalena Flowers. Flowers also had an assist. Danika Nowak had the shutout as keeper.

On Sunday, the Timbers hosted the Spokane Foxes Pumas FC 04 Kropp group, and won 4-0. Lucy Evans scored the opener off a Isabella Lucky corner, Kayla Dearmin had two goals, one with an assist from Lainey Hall, and Isabella Lucky scored, with Reagan Cherry assisting. Danika Nowak scored the shutout as keeper. The Timbers moved on based on points to play in Lacey, Wash., next weekend in the Washington Cup semifinals.
