POST FALLS — The Coeur d’Alene boys and Lake City girls showcased their team depth to win a competitive Post Falls Invitational on Monday at Highlands Golf Course, an event which (finally!) saw good weather and playing conditions.

Four of the five Viking golfers — Austin Mitchell, Jackson Davenport, Wyatt Williams and Sam Johnson — shot either a 76 or 77, helping CHS post a 307 team score, best among the 10-team boys field. The Vikings finished five strokes ahead of Post Falls (312) and 11 ahead of Lewiston (318).

“It was a great team effort,” CHS coach Bryan Duncan said. “Our No. 1 kid struggled today, but the rest of our kids picked him up. We’re developing some good depth on the team this year.”

Post Falls was led by Cameron Flores’ one-over-par 73, while Trojans Tanner Byers (76) and Jacob Glenn (76) also fired solid rounds at Highlands.

“It was a good day with good conditions and good scores,” Post Falls assistant coach Karl Sette said. “All of the district teams played well — it’s going to be a battle between the four teams to see who gets the two spots at state.”

Lake City finished fifth as a team with 330, behind Kellogg’s fourth-place effort, but Timberwolves junior Ryan Chapman had a breakthrough round, shooting 73 and then winning a three-man tiebreaker for medalist honors.

Chapman and Flores birdied the par-5 first hole, knocking Lewiston’s Treyton Forsman from the playoff. The duo parred the second hole, then Chapman won with a par on the third playoff hole, the par-5 seventh.

“Ryan showed great focus and determination down the stretch and on the playoff holes,” LCHS boys golf coach Troy Anderson said. “It was fun to watch him break through because he is a kid who works so hard every single day at practice. This will only lead to better things for him down the road.”

Among other area boys teams, Chase Jerome shot a 76 and teammate Cade Finlay fired a 78 to lead 3A Kellogg to a fourth-place finish in the team standings.

Sandpoint finished sixth with a 364 team score. Lake Wilks led the Bulldogs with an 88.

Lakeland’s boys finished eighth with a 414, led by Cody Elmose’s 88.

- In girls’ play, Lake City’s Sami Dement, Kyla Currie and Tarryn Cherry led the Timberwolves to a closely contested team title, as LCHS edged Sandpoint 379-382. Post Falls was close behind with a 385.

“There was only about a dozen strokes between first and fourth place today ... it will be a hard-fought contest at regionals,” Sette said, noting that his No. 4 golfer, Camden Lenox, shot a personal-best 97 on Monday.

Also shooting a personal best was Coeur d’Alene’s Jessica Fahy, whose 80 was the second best individual score, behind Moscow standout Makena Rauch’s 73. Martina Hicks shot a 92 for the Vikings, who finished sixth in the 11-team event.

Reneé Mosby and Hannah Larson both shot 94 for Post Falls.

Kellogg was led by Kat Rauenhorst’s 91 and a season-best 97 from Anika Sundstrom, helping the Wildcats finish fifth.

Area teams return to action on Friday as Coeur d’Alene hosts the Kraus Invitational. Boys golfers will compete at Avondale Golf Club, while the girls play at Hayden Lake Country Club.
